View from a Claret - Burnley Pre-Match Q&A

Ahead of each match this season I'll be getting a fan of another club to answer our questions. Today we have Jamie - editor for the excellent Burnley website No Nay Never - giving us the lowdown on all things claret & blue.

1) Welcome back to the Premier League! Did you ever expect you could have been in with a chance of gaining promotion last season, given you'd been many bookies' tips for relegation?

Cheers! I certainly didn't see us being up there, especially when we sold Charlie Austin just before the opening day. I didn't think relegation was on the cards either, I was expecting mid-table, probably just in the bottom half. But we started very strongly and never really let up. Key for me was a comfortable 2-0 home win against QPR in October - we looked the real deal that day. That was when I started to think a special season could be unfolding.

2) With Dyche clearly a "system-based" manager, what do you think will be your strongest facet this season which will give you the best chance of staying up?

I agree with you that he's system-based, but others think he's more tactically flexible so it'll be interesting to see how that pans out. He's said he wants to play two strikers at home, but has hinted we might not away. Team unity is going to be vital for us this season. We responded well to setbacks last season and will have to again this year - partly because we'll get beat more often.

3) Are there any players we should watch out for in particular this weekend?

Danny Ings and Kieran Trippier are our two big stars, but the player who looked most at home on Monday night was Scott Arfield. He scored one and could have had another but for a fabulous save from Thibaut Courtois. He'll play on the right wing and he has boundless energy on top of his goal threat - he scored nine last season.

4) As for ourselves, is there anyone in particular you think your team will need to be wary of?

Bony is the obvious threat and we'll do well to keep him quiet. Our full-backs can struggle against pace a bit so I'm worried about how we'll deal with Dyer/Montero/Routledge. Dyer is well-known to us as he had a vibrant spell on loan at Burnley as a kid. I also really like Sigurdsson and I'm a bit concerned about his late runs into the box, but I think we can get at your defence and I don't rate Fabianski at all. He's a big downgrade on Vorm for me.

5) How do you think you'll fare in general this season?

A relegation battle is inevitable and I can't see us staying up without two or three really good new signings.

6) Obviously you went down to Chelsea last time out - do you feel there was anything to learn from that match or is it simply better to write off Chelsea's fantastic purple patch and focus on the task at hand?

There were some positives. Arfield was fantastic. Michael Duff did well against Diego Costa. The two debutants, Lukas Jutkiewicz and Matt Taylor, both played well. But yes, there's a lot we can learn. We simply can't be giving away soft goals from set pieces, that's absolutely basic stuff. We need to track midfield runners better and we'll have to take our chances, but we didn't disgrace ourselves and I thought Chelsea were excellent. Cesc Fabregas was particularly outstanding and we'll not face players like him often.

7) I know Burnley have fans on the board - similar to ourselves - but I'd be keen to know more. Could you tell us a bit about the makeup of the ownership there?

All fans. Shouldn't be unusual, but it is, unfortunately. Barry Kilby had to step down as chairman to fight cancer a couple of years ago now so we have co-chairmen now. It's working better than we expected, but nobody on the board is particularly rich. That's probably the trade-off for having all fans, I reckon. But I wouldn't swap them for someone like Tan at Cardiff, for example. [A sentiment I'm sure all Swansea fans will wholeheartedly agree with - Ed].

8) Lastly, what's your prediction for this weekend's match?

I'm going for a draw, 1-1.
