Fernandez talks rumble on

It was rumoured all we were waiting for was a work permit...but he holds an Italian passport...

Over the last few days we've had various stories emerge in the media claiming that Federico Fernandez to Swansea was essentially a done deal, with the defender simply needing to obtain a work permit in order to complete his move.

Well, yesterday he tweeted a photo of himself in Capri on a yacht, so it seems he's not in Swansea just yet, and what's more it turns out that like lots of Argentinians he also holds an Italian passport, so a work permit wouldn't be necessary for him to transfer from Napoli.

The latest news from Italy seems to suggest that there's still disagreement over the timing of the payments to Napoli for the defender, with the fee seemingly to be paid in installments over the season. Exactly how much the transfer fee is we don't know, but it's reportedly around the seven or eight million pound mark. Which really isn't bad for a central defender of his calibre.

It's unlikely he'll join in time for the Manchester United game, but hopefully it won't be too long before the finer details of the transfer are sorted and he joins up with the squad.
