Gambian Modou Barrow to join Swansea on three-year deal

Following a successful trial spell the forward will play his final game for Ostersund on Tuesday before travelling to join the Swans

As first reported by TSW, we've had young Gambian forward on trial from Swedish side Ostersunds this week, and the media are now reporting that we've offered him a three year deal which he's accepted. The chairman of the Swedish club has confirmed the move, worth about £1.75million, and praised the Swans' approach throughout - something which contrasts with Utrecht's claims that we'd pulled a bit of a fast one in regards to Vorm's sell on fee.

"The club is both glad and proud and wishes Modou all the best. I've never been involved in a bigger deal, and I don't know if I'll ever be involved in anything similar again." Ostersund Chairman Daniel Kindberg

It's clearly a big amount of money to the Swedish club so I'm glad they've got what they consider a fair fee, and I'm also glad that we seem to be coming out of this with some credit in terms of transfer decorum, after the Utrecht saga threatened to damage our reputation.

As for Barrow, he'll play for Ostersund on Tuesday before travelling to join the Swans the next day. I'm sure we all wish him luck, and he'll also have the distinction of being the first Gambian to play in the Premier League.

Did you know the official name for his country is "The Gambia"? It's one of only two countries - the other being The Bahamas - that are known officially in the definitive sense. I thought that was interesting enough to mention, anyway.
