Swansea to mark Chinese New Year by wearing celebratory t-shirts prior to Man Utd match

Josh Kilmister on the news that the Swans will mark the Year Of The Goat by wearing limited edition training tops while warming up on Saturday

South-Korea captain Ki Sung-Yeung will be among the Swans stars who will welcome Chinese new year in style, with the squad set to warm up in t-shirts celebrating the occasion.

The celebrations – set up by club sponsors Goldenway – will hopefully give something back to the many Swans fans in Asia, with the Lunar year celebrations being observed from China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

Against Man United, the digital advertising boards at the Liberty will display “Happy Chinese New Year” messages throughout the game. Garry Monk was keen to share his admiration of our foreign followers, he said:

“At Swansea City Football Club, we’re very proud to be a part of the Premier League which is enjoyed by so many people across the world.
“Both the Premier League and Swansea City have a huge and passionate fan base in Asia. We’re delighted that our sponsors Goldenway have arranged for us to honour the tradition of Chinese New Year by wearing limited edition t-shirts ahead of the upcoming match against Manchester United.
“We hope our celebrations of the Year of the Goat will bring us luck ahead of our match against United this weekend.”

The club released a video on the Swans TV YouTube channel to celebrate the Chinese New Year, with Bafetimbi Gomis, Jonjo Shelvey, Garry Monk and of course Ki Sung-Yeung showing off the t-shirts that will be worn in Saturday.

Hopefully 2015 will be the year of the Swans, as well as the goat!
