Latest media talk is of a loan to the Italian club with an option to buy
If you'd have told me six months ago that right now Napoli would be the most likely destination for Michu, I'd likely have scoffed at you. Out of form and having spent the majority of the season injured, I've long wondered how and whether Michu would fit back into the first team picture - what with Wilf making the striker spot his own, and being completely honest I have expected him to depart this summer for a good while now. I just didn't expect a club like Napoli to be coming in for him!
The latest talk from the Italian press is that Michu completed his medical with Napoli officials whilst on holiday in my old stomping ground of Ibiza, and that a loan move with view to a permanent transfer has now been agreed. Whether there's truth in that remains to be seen, but it's being used as an explanation as to why Michu has missed the pre-season testing/the squad departing for America with negotiations rumoured to be ongoing as to the Spaniard's future.
The Swans are keen for any move to be on a permanent basis, whereas Napoli are keener on a loan with a view to buy - apparently the option would be around 15Million Euros which seems a bit high for me to be honest! If we get it brilliant, but if the Swans are pushing for this to be a transfer as opposed to a loan I'd be surprised if that's the figure they're aiming for. If they do want to sell him I'm sure they'd settle for a good bit lower than that.
There's been no official word from the club yet that Michu is available for sale, and when questioned about him Monk has said nothing other than they need to have a chat, but that he hopes he's a Swansea City player next season. You can't help but get the feeling though that the end may well be nigh for Michu's time at Swansea.
