Have Liverpool approached Bony without permission from the Swans?

Depending on what news outlet you believe, Liverpool are in talks with Bony's agent about a possible move...

"Na na na na na na na na na I'm not listening!!!". That has been my general reaction so far to any talk that Bony will be leaving the club this summer, but the latest media rumourings are a bit more substantial, and have Wilf's representatives meeting with Liverpool's attempting to organise some kind of deal which will see the Ivorian spirited away to Anfield. Not on my watch! Get blood lost!

The only thing which worries me is this talk of a £19million release clause, if I'm being perfectly honest. Despite my head-in-the-sand-ostrich-esque technique of dealing with speculation surrounding Bony's future, I do completely understand that every player has his price. It's just his price should be a lot, lot more than £19million.

Especially if it's Liverpool, and Buck, who come in for him - they've already had our manager and one of our best players, so if they come back again you can bet the Swans would look to make them pay. Especially given the precedents set in previous transfers between the clubs, and Liverpool's recent transfer spending (£24million on Lallana, for example). I'd say Bony is easily, easily worth £25million in today's market. If it's Liverpool more like £30million.

Today's news has Huw responding to the rumours about Wilf, and it seems either he's said two completely different but very similar things to two different newspapers, or something has gone missing in translation between South Wales and the press. See for yourself.

This first quote is from the Daily Mail article, which notes that Huw "Spoke to Sportsmail":

"I was very surprised to hear and disappointed to hear that Liverpool had gone down that route and were talking to the player behind behind my club's back. I'm disappointed that Liverpool are acting in that manner. No official approach has been made to me or our football club."

This next quote (which as you can see is almost identical) comes from quotes attributed to when Jenkins spoke to the South Wales Evening Post:

“I have had no talks with Liverpool until now, and I would be very surprised if a club like Liverpool are doing any kind of negotiations with a player or player’s agent behind our back. I would have thought somebody from Liverpool would have been in touch if they are really interested in Wilfried."

As you can see, there's a big difference there. Notably, one says "I am disappointed" (indicating that it's something which has already happened), and the other states "I would be disappointed", which would indicate that Huw has been told this is something that's happened, but can't confirm it categorically. It does seem strange that two almost identical statements have gone online in such quick succession - it certainly makes you wonder eh.

So, right now - and depending who you believe - Bony may or may not have a £19million release clause in his contract, his representatives may or may not have met with Liverpool, and Huw may or may not have confirmed that when speaking to the press today. Simple!
