Shelvey to replace Colback in England squad?

With the Newcastle midfielder withdrawing from the squad through injury, and Hodgson claiming Shelvey is someone he's watching, could the Swans midfielder come in as a replacement?

Interesting developments. After responding to criticisms of the exclusion of Nathan Dyer & Jonjo Shelvey from the England squad, Roy Hodgson is now in a position where he could end up calling a Swan after all. Jack Colback has had to withdraw from the squad through injury, and surely Shelvey is next in line to be called up?

He enjoyed a very solid 2013/14, and his performance against West Brom, I thought, was very good. Surely Hodgson will call someone up to replace the Newcastle midfielder? England lacked - dare I say it - someone willing to do something unpredictable against Norway and Shelvey most definitely supplies that. In abundance, normally.

With Gerrard and Lampard both having retired there's definitely room for someone with a more expansive game than any of England's current options in central midfield, and having the ability to spray the ball out to their fast wingers would definitely help them create more goalscoring opportunities, in my opinion.

I've already said (and showed stats as to why - link) that I think Jonjo should have been called up in the original squad. If he gets the call today or tomorrow, it'll be none too soon.
